Here is one of my reviews on key points in that book. Everything below is bold is from that book. I am not wanting to judge anyone, but I do think it is essential to point out these verses (and thoughts), some of which I believe to be a command, warning, or plan set out by God for us. Any time we deviate from a path that He sets out for us in Scripture (many may not consider them to be commands), we reap what we sow.
****One of the best verses in the Bible to point out that only GOD knows when our quiver is full is this: "Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the Lord keeps the city, the watchman stays awake in vain." Psalm 127:1
* The word “builds” in Hebrew is “Banah,” which actually means “to obtain children.”
* A form of "banah" is also used for the word "house," which is translated as "especially family."
* Then, the word "keep" is shamar" which is translated, "hedge about/protect/preserve."
* "In Vain" is "shav" = "or shav {shav}; in the sense of desolating; evil (as destructive), literally (ruin) or morally (especially guile); figuratively idolatry (as false, subjective), uselessness (as deceptive, objective; also adverbially, in vain)"
****Remember, This is also the same Psalm that talks of how happy a man is who has a quiver full of children! Wow! Amazingly laid out all in that one short chapter! Is that a command? No. BUT it is a warning.
Below are a few other important thoughts and verses.
Genesis 1:28 "God blessed them and said, 'Be fruitful and increase in number; FILL the earth and subdue it...'" That was God's FIRST command and he never takes back any command that He has given! Why would He rescind it now? This was also his first statement recorded in the Bible to man. Wouldn't God have thought not to make that His first statement recorded if it were not important? The earth is NOT full (I believe Nancy stated that all the people on earth could each have 2 sq. ft. per person and not even fill the state of Texas!). "Another reason that God desired for mankind to be fruitful was because man is an eternal creature.....man was given a piece of eternity when God created him."
The Prayer of Jabez ~ "If some people knew today that God might send them additional children because they prayed this prayer to "increase the territory, some might not continue in praying this." Children are and were used to INCREASE territory! We can increase our territory, while also increasing "territory" for God!
"If by choosing to have fewer children a person truly had more money and more time to be at leisure, then we would see parents of few being realized and walking in financial freedom. We do not see this at all. They may have more material possessions and more leisure time, but they do not seem any less stressed out" Don't you hear the comment (I know I do with only 4), "How do you handle them all? I can barely handle my two!" That's a perfect example of what she wrote.
Psalm 95:10-11 "‘they are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have NOT known MY ways. So I declared in my anger, 'They shall NEVER rest.'" "Society is definitely in a state of unrest due to their decisions." Notice that God said, "MY WAYS," not "MY COMMANDMENTS." I believe that the Bible is not full of commandments entirely. If we are to only read to the depth of the commandments, what is the rest of the Bible for anyway? I'm not sure I understand what y'all are saying when talking about obeying only the commandments. ???
A lot of people do not realize how the fathers of our faith felt about birth control. "Martin Luther considered birth control and contraceptive use to 'be sins worse than adultery or incest.' They called birth control 'an inherent evil.' Other Protestants such as Calvin, Wesley, Spurgeon and the Pilgrims all condemned the use of birth control."
1 Corinthians 2:12 "The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned." I think that this is true, even among Christians. They do not have, want or ask Jesus for the Spirit of discernment. They are afraid of what He might show them. Then they will KNOW they are not doing what God would have them to do and would think that at that time they would be held accountable. The thing is, we are always held accountable to God for everything we do or do not do! "They may also get to Heaven and find out that there was so much more planned for their lives and their generations that they missed out on (1 Corinthians 3:12-15, Revelation 21:4). This is their choice. Believers have been given liberty, but it carries a responsibility and price tag."
"The anger that can be expressed when the subject [of contraception/sterilization] is brought up amazes me." I'm sure that you've seen this! I know that with my friends it's a very touchy subject.
2 Timothy 3:1-2, 5 "[in the end times] People will be lovers of themselves....having a form of godliness but denying its power." WOW! SOOO true! "When society cannot see a difference between themselves and God's people, then there definitely is a problem that God's people need to deal with. This is what we are seeing today. Both Christian and non-Christian women saying how they want their freedom and don't want to spend their lives raising kids"
Here are two quotes, one from Oswald Chambers and one from Nancy Campbell.
“Our children are the messages we send ahead to a time we shall never see.” ~ Nancy Campbell
"If you are living the life of faith you will exercise your right to waive your rights and to LET GOD choose for you.” Oswald Chambers, My Utmost of His Highest YES, God gives us free will and choice, but that doesn't mean that just because He gave that to us that He wants us to exercise that right if it is against His Word (that is what is key).
