We're supposed to keep other believers accountable while confessing our own sin to them. That way God is glorified, and we are humble. Whenever I rebuke someone for sin, I try to confess a sin of my own, too, so that the other person can see that I'm not "lording it over" them.

Dear Lisa,
I have been reading your blog since last spring. It has been such an encouragement to me. I am a homeschooling mom of 5 (4 healthy blessings here and one in the arms of Jesus). We are in NC also and are striving to raise our children to serve the Lord.
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your ministry and your obedience to the Lord with us.

Oh Lisa, this is exactly what I was looking for! I came to your blog because I remember a blog post from the past where you spoke about family ministry and included a response to those who might object to bringing children to the abortion clinic mission field. Today was my first day in front of an abortion clinic (PP), and I had my two little girlies with me. I have already heard reactions from some who disagree with bringing the children. Thank you, thank you for this! <3

Lisa and family,
I have had your blog bookmarked and read it periodically for quite some time. Recently God has been convicting me more and more about going to my local Planned Parenthood and trying to pursuade women to choose life. I don't know anyone personally who does this and I'm a little scared to do it alone, but I believe it is what God wants me to do. I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of sources of material to hand out? I don't have the first clue where to start. I'm planning to just make packets of info on Christian adoption agencies in our state, crisis pregnancy centers and a tract and take my packets and a few home made posters and go stand out front and see what happens. But first I have to find a source of materials to put in my packets.

So glad I found your blog! I found it from a link on CCHNET. I am a new mom living in northern va right now and will be moving to Charlotte, NC early next year. I have one son, a toddler, and am starting the homeschooling journey. Your blog is really awesome! How cool it is to see so much scripture and the Word! We must train our children to be discerning and to run everything they encounter through the filter of God's Word. We have to know what God's Word says and so do they if they are to be equipped to stand against evil. We discuss issues with our children, we take them through the process of discernment with us, but I think it is arrogant and foolish to expose them to things that will have a corrupting influence on their hearts and minds. (For example, watching a movie that you know is evil,just so you will know what is in it and can have conversations about it with your peers.) The answer to your initial question seems to be in the John 17 passage you quoted. As people who have been called out of darkness, we also have a calling to proclaim the truth as long as we live on this earth. In that sense we are "in the world, but not of it." It seems that we should be spending more time exposing ourselves and our children to the truths of God's Word than seeking to be "relevant" through exposure to wicked forms of entertainment. Thank you for posting about this, I've been thinking about it lately too. :)

This is so true! A couple years back, I asked my husband what he would want to come home to. I was so surprised that what I thought was important to him really didn't seem to matter all that much, and little details I didn't think would be noticed made his top 3. After that, I started paying attention to those things and he has been so happy. Lately I've been struggling, though, and this was what I needed to help get me back in gear. Thanks for sharing!

I full-heartedly agree that as believers we need to abstain from the appearance of evil, and to come out from among them and be separate. Thanks for the collection of verses you posted.

I think that by homeschooling we can train our children in an environment that is sheltered from the world and its ways. But as you implied, it is also good not to be ignorant of the evil as well.

I know of a sheltered young boy who left home, and got into drugs. I feel it was because he wasn't made aware and warned of the evils of this world.

Definitely need to seek the Lord's wisdom as we raise our children!
